FILM/SCRIPT ANALYSIS FOR SCREENWRITERS
6 Week workshop Welcome to "Film Analysis for Screenwriters," a dynamic six-week class offered by Meditative Writing. In this unique course, we take a deep dive into the art of film analysis, offering screenwriters a fresh perspective on storytelling that enhances their craft. While our Meditative Writing workshops focus on inner exploration and artistic expression, and our Alchemy class sharpens your writing skills, "Film Analysis for Screenwriters" offers a third prong to your writing toolkit. In this course, we approach storytelling from the outside in, providing a comprehensive understanding of the mechanics behind cinematic narratives. Each week, you'll immerse yourself in a new film carefully selected to illustrate key storytelling techniques. Through guided questions and discussions, you'll dissect the plot structure, character development, dialogue, theme, and more. By analyzing these films, you'll gain invaluable insights into the craft of screenwriting, learning how to apply these techniques to your own work. But the learning doesn't stop there. In our weekly class sessions, you'll have the opportunity to share your findings and engage in stimulating discussions with fellow writers. This collaborative environment fosters creativity, encourages critical thinking, and provides valuable feedback to elevate your writing to new heights. Repetition is key to mastering any skill, and scriptwriting is no exception. By consistently analyzing films and applying your insights to your writing practice, you'll develop a deeper understanding of storytelling fundamentals and refine your craft with each passing week. |

"Jess' unique ability to adjust her approach based on where the writer is in their journey shows her dedication to actually helping us move forward. This class was the first time I ever really felt safe to share. The way Jess handles giving feedback is like therapy for a writer’s soul."

"I was amazed not only at the number of tools I learned but the psychology behind them. I've read every book on screenwriting and felt overwhelmed with what I was 'supposed' to do on the page. I was tired of following someone else's path; it felt forced. This class gave me tools I could actually use on all my scripts. Jess helped me understand the psychology of how a reader reads a script vs how an audience watches TV and unconsciously what brings an audience back to a show. This has changed my career."
