Meditative Writing Workshop

suffer less, write more.

“Meditative Writing truly is 'assisted self-discovery.' For the same reason writers should take acting classes, Meditative Writing helps you get down into your body, to work a scene or character from the inside out. The practice has applications even beyond writing, into directing, pitching, and just being in the world. This class and subsequent practice has been extremely helpful to me in my work.” – Christine Boylan (Writer/Producer at Marvel & Netflix)
Learn how to use meditation to feel connected every time you write, create never before seen characters and stories that only you could write, overcome resistance, build stronger writing habits, conquer self-doubt, and write evocative new stories, that are uniquely yours but speak to universal truths.

The techniques of Meditative Writing were developed to address each writer's specific needs. In each of the four workshop sessions, cognitive and meditative exercises are crafted specifically to help you open your mind to new ideas and inspirations, tap into a deeper well or creativity, and write without judgement. These in-class guided meditations will ensure you leave each session with pages upon pages of new writing.

At its core, Meditative Writing places character front and center. In every guided meditation, you will be asked to follow your character, observe them, and write down what you see. In this process, you will focus on what you see or experience, not what you think. The thinking/judging mind leads to clichéd and safe choices, while the curious/experiential mind leads to bold and creative new art. Instead, consider Meditative Writing as your film shoot (metaphorically, of course). In the meditations, you are collecting footage of your character and documenting it on paper. Later, when you feel you have enough footage, then you can begin to edit that material into structured stories without losing your unique voice.

Meditative Writing is open to all artists at any stage of their creative development. Whether you're an aspiring or established novelist, poet, screenwriter, playwright, songwriter, or journalist, everyone can benefit from creative guidance and internal exploration.
