FACING YOUR FEARS

A practical approach to a more enjoyable creative life

Facing the Fear: Cultivating Bravery & Resilience

A 6-week class for writers, artists, and creatives limited by their fears.

You already know what the fear costs you. The pages you don't reread. The submission you don't send. The song you don't play, the painting you don't show, the pitch you talk yourself out of. This is a workshop about walking toward the thing that scares you, slowly, safely, and together, until it no longer runs the show.

You will always be a little afraid to do the thing you care about. The fear never fully disappears, but it does get smaller.

The more you give in to fear, the bigger it grows. The more you face it, the smaller it gets. That's not a slogan. It's how your nervous system actually works. And over six weeks, we're going to work with your fear instead of around it — until the thing that once felt impossible becomes something you simply do.

WHO THIS IS FOR

This class is for you if you have:
  • A fear of writing, of starting, of the blank page
  • A fear of rereading your own work
  • A fear of submitting
  • A fear of workshopping and being seen
  • A fear of rejection
  • A fear of writing cliché, writing messy, writing badly
  • A fear of networking or pitching

And it's not only for writers. If you've ever been afraid to show your paintings, sing in front of people, play your music, audition, present, or share anything you made and love, you belong here.

One shared goal: to take power away from the fear, and give it back to the brave, creative person underneath.

HOW IT WORKS

The Method We use a principle called exposure training.

The core idea is simple and proven: when you repeatedly face a feared thing in safe, manageable doses, two things happen. First, your fear response naturally quiet, psychologists call this habituation.

Second, and just as important, you collect new evidence that disproves the story your fear was telling you: I submitted it and survived. I read it aloud, and the room didn't end. I pitched, and I'm still standing.

You can't think your way out of fear. You can only train your way out of it.

That's where the second piece comes in.

THE SCIENCE

Why Repetition, Not Willpower. Your nervous system doesn't learn from logic. It learns from experience.

Drawing on polyvagal theory, we understand fear as a physiological state, not a character flaw or a thinking problem. When your system senses threat, it mobilizes: heart racing, mind blank, the impulse to avoid. No amount of reasoning talks it down in that moment.

But the nervous system can be retrained through two things it deeply understands:

  • Repetition... small, consistent, doable exposures, day after day
  • Safety and connection... a calm, consistent environment and a group that co-regulates with you, so your body learns it's safe to be seen

That combination is what quiets the alarm over time. You stop needing to be brave through sheer force. Your body simply stops sounding the siren.

It's time to practice bravery.
